How My Farm Taught Me to Lead with Empathy and Balance
Leadership in business isn’t just about strategy, profits, or spreadsheets. It’s about understanding people, staying grounded, and making thoughtful decisions. Surprisingly, I’ve learned most of these qualities not in a boardroom—but on my small farm.
Each day, I work closely with my horse, cats, and dog. These animals don’t speak, but they communicate volumes. They’ve taught me patience, presence, and the power of non-verbal leadership. If I show up with calm energy, they respond. If I’m scattered, they sense it. That awareness has helped me become a more empathetic, effective leader for business owners.
The farm runs on routine and resilience. Caring for animals and managing land require consistency—just like running a successful business. And every quiet moment outdoors reminds me: growth doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, care, and trust.
So, as I nurture my farm, I also nurture the growth of others. And in doing so, I’ve found a leadership style rooted not in ego, but in empathy.
